Are most park neighbors really opposed?
Yes. In order to get an independent measure of support (as opposed to the very poor survey conducted by the Hawaii Kyudo Foundation), City Councilman Tommy Waters conducted a poll of over 2000 people in the vicinity of the park. The result was 78% in opposition:
